MR-Otálora

At 15, I began my art studies with sculptor Eugenia Everett and found my mind being catapulted to the wondrous plateau of the visual experience.

I continued in this exhilarating trajectory at Columbia University, studying drawing and painting with Leon Goldin, and sculpture with Peter Agostini. However, my art making went on hiatus in 1967 when I began the Master’s Program in Architecture and Planning at Columbia, where I transitioned to Three Dimensional Functional and Aesthetic Problem Solving at a Building and Urban Scale. From 1971 to 2013, I immersed myself in architecture, integrating in my projects the principle of form-follows-function, while providing the users the experience of color and light in their movement through spaces I created.

In 2015, I resumed my studies in sculpture and painting at Brevard College. I found myself evolving, and now my figurative work is very limited. I am fascinated by light in art and lighting of art. I am excited by the challenges of abstract art, love to paint and sculpt, and delight in combining sculpture with painting, whenever possible.

I find making art to be a continuous experiment — always taking on new challenges, learning and building upon experiences, and acquiring new skills.
