Studio Tour - Betsy Gallery's Mosaic
Studio Tour - Betsy Gallery's Mosaic
How do you make a mosaic? Whether you want to try your hand with the materials, or you just want to see how it is done, you are invited to visit AAC member Betsy Gallery’s mosaic studio. Betsy’s studio is in her garden at 1125 East Ortega St. (off of Milpas St.)
She has classic mosaic making tools—hammer and hardie, nippers and more. She will demonstrate the unique cutting techniques for Italian and Mexican smalti, marble and the many other potential mosaic materials. Fabrication techniques used to make a mosaic depend on whether it will be on the wall, on the floor, outside or inside, plus additional environmental requirements.
Betsy has a showroom in her home where completed mosaics show the different techniques, including the Roman direct technique, the reverse technique, and the double reverse technique used in restorations and precision applications.
Because of space limitations the tour is limited to 10 people and will last approximately one hour. Sunday July 14, 2024 from 2 to 3 pm. Please contact Betsy Gallery at bgallerymosaics@gmail.com if interested.
