Figure Drawing Workshop

The goal of this short workshop is to give an introduction to tools and methods one can use to improve the liveliness and expression of quick gestural drawings of the human form.

Focusing on short poses (30 seconds to 5 minutes), students will practice techniques and exercises to develop hand-eye coordination and learn strategies for gesture drawings (such as in which order to start and develop the drawing) and improve their ability to draw quick and expressive drawings.

This workshop is appropriate for all levels including beginners. Demos and hands-on critiques are an important part of the instruction.

Proposed agenda:

8:30am - 9:00am Set-up

9:00am - 9:15am Introduction and instruction with slides projection

9:15am – 12:00pm Working with the model. More instruction during the breaks. Demos and critiques.

12:00pm -12:30pm Critiques, discussion, Q&A

12:30pm – 1:00pm Cleanup

Location: Community Art Workshop (CAW), 631 Garden St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Cost: $50 payable via Venmo, Paypal or Zelle. Payment is requested to secure you spot. In case of cancellation, cost will be refunded if I can find someone to take your spot.

Model fee is included but tips are appreciated. Supplies are not provided.
