Isaac Hernández

Isaac Hernández combines his experience in photography and film with a passion for visual discovery to create a unique expression of color and luminance. His education includes a BA in Professional Photography from Brooks Institute, rounded with studio classes in portrait, figure drawing, sculpture and his favorite, abstract art with Bonnie Blau at Santa Barbara City College, as well as Art History at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. Besides abstract painting, Isaac does figurative work and has been exploring the human condition through hundreds of self-portraits over decades.

His work is driven by curiosity and playfulness, often mixing the colors on the canvas without preconception. Besides oils, he loves playing with oil pastels, gouache and found objects. As a photographer, he explores the significance of photography on memory and what happens when those memories are erased or corrupted by painting over his own photographs.

Isaac has written hundreds of articles over three decades, published in over 300 magazines around the world, translated to over a dozen languages, including collaboration with the prestigious Art Press magazine. He has written, produced and directed several plays and award-winning documentary films, including "Better Together", narrated by Christopher Lloyd.
