Elaine Wilson
As a native Californian, I grew up appreciating the beauty of the natural world around me through hiking, biking and sailing. Painting and photography are the ways I express my appreciation of that beauty.
I begin a painting with a memory or impression of an uplifting scene, and consider all the mixed media techniques and materials that would best express it. Once I begin and the paint touches the canvas, an intuitive process takes over and I run with it. Painting in multiple layers, I include materials such as Tyvek, aluminum, rusted paper, my own photos, India ink, botanical mono-prints, and clay — to name a few. This process constantly expands my visual language, and has enabled me to better express my emotional response to beauty.
I received a BS degree from California State University at Northridge, and continued my art studies at Otis College of Art and Design, Brentwood Art Center, and California Institute of Arts. I studied acrylic and mixed media painting with Lisa Adams, David Lloyd, and other nationally known painters. I have exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions at juried art shows, galleries and museums. My work is owned by private collectors and corporations throughout the United States.
