Carlos Figueroa
I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I completed my studies in the social sciences at the Universidad del Salvador, before emigrating to the United States. I worked as an intern for a commercial illustrator and set designer starting in 1981, and worked as a graphic artist and commercial illustrator while taking painting classes. In 1995 I formed my own advertising and design agency. Since 2008 I’ve worked as a freelance brand consultant. My work helped me develop proficiency in illustration techniques and discipline of execution while cultivating knowledge and experience with digital tools.
My approach is minimalist, using line and gradients to create forms that convey emotions, moods, and feelings. I like working with very tight constraints and limitations. I use an illustration program rather than digital painting programs to avoid the risk (or temptation) to replicate other media in the execution.
My work follows two different paths: social observation and abstract composition. My goal is to reflect the dichotomy between sensuality and unresolved conflict that pervades our world — both at a social and an individual level. I use abstraction as a means to explore the causes of such dichotomy.
