What emerges from my studio is a love of the essence, colors, hues and atmosphere of wilderness. Natural environments, juxtaposed with and in, in contrast to man made constructed space, is the theme. Over time, my mediums have been large-scale fiber sculptures employing 45” looms, watercolors on delicious Arches 300-pound paper, pastels of old cars and trucks on sanded paper, and, presently, vivid acrylics.
The challenge of connecting, linking, layering, and resolving the very dissimilar and contrasting subjects of nonobjective abstract colors, tones, shades and nuances set against man or woman made synthetic, manufactured, artificial structures is the underlying focus for my paintings. Working on birch panel allows crisp lines and edges to float above and beneath the abstract acrylic surfaces. The effort becomes an existential equation which is very intriguing to me.
