“Surviving to Thriving”

JUROR: Armando Ramos, Professor in the Sculpture department, SBCC

Armando Ramos is a multimedia artist who primarily works with clay and wood. His work is based on the stories of the characters he explores and how they represent a time that cannot be regained. Ramos initially studied ceramics at the Kansa City Art Institute, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He then completed his graduate studies in sculpture at Montana State University before moving to San Francisco, CA, to continue his studio practice. Armando is currently a Sculpture Professor at Santa Barbara City College.
Armando Ramos has been a recipient of grants, residencies, and fellowships from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, the Frey Foundation, the Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge, Montana, the Vermont Studio Center, and the International Ceramic Workshop California, the State University of Long Beach. His work has been exhibited in many venues and museums throughout the US.

ONLINE SUBMISSION: Through CaFE, March 17 to April 7

Up to 5 entries: $30 for 1, $10 more for each one after, payable to CaFE.

ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION: April 20th

INGATHERING: Monday, April 29th 10-12pm, (Hanging 12pm to 5pm)

OPENING RECEPTION: May 2, 5-8pm (1st Thursday)

THIRD FRIDAY RECEPTION: Friday, May 17th, 5 -8pm

TAKEDOWN: Friday, May 31, 10-12pm

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:

2D

  • No more than 4 feet wide with frame. No limit on height. No more than 6 inches deep.

  • No giclée copies of original paintings — Inkjet prints of work created digitally, hand-pulled prints and photography are accepted.

  • Unique presentation: unframed paper, clips, panels, etc. will be accepted on a case by case basis.

3D

  • Sculptures should be less than 100 lbs, less than 8 feet high and take less than 6 square feet of floor space. If your work does not meet these limits, you are encouraged to contact Eric Saint Georges (ericcsgc@hawaii.edu).

  • Free standing sculptures should be stable or bolted to a base. Any work not considered safe will be rejected.

  • AAC will provide a limited number of pedestals. Artists are encouraged to bring their own pedestals.
