Karen Zazon

For me, painting is a spiritual experience as well as just fun and freeing. It serves as a vehicle to peel back the layers and reveal my life’s purpose. My background as an art director and designer gave me the skills to execute with precision and detail and yet I had to unlearn many of the rules that required me to concentrate on the finished product.

Through abstract painting I discovered how to paint with feeling and abandon rather than with a subject and to bypass the rational side of my brain and let go of all rules. I find that my best and most satisfying work is when I have no expectations. The joy comes from the freedom to enjoy “the process” instead of concentrating on the outcome and my goal for the viewer is to entice them with a sense of mystique to find their own meaning and interpretation beyond just color and form…and to find their own sense of inspiration and self-discovery.
