Mary Freericks

Mary Freericks is a prize-winning artist who has been painting for thirty years. She has expertise in a number of mediums including watercolor, oil monotypes, acrylic, and mixed media. She has an M.F.A. from Columbia University School of the Arts.

‏Her art training started at a very young age. Her mother, Sonia, was an artist who studied with Kandinsky, and Sonia would hand Mary colored pencils whenever she herself was painting — even while traveling from Khorramshahr, Iran to the United States. Mary sketched Arabs, their turbans, and camels.

‏After her husband’s death, Mary moved from the East Coast to Santa Barbara, and took up art seriously. She took classes. She also attended workshops led by Charles Reid, Gerald Brommer, and Skip Lawrence.

‏She has been represented by the Glenn Dallas Gallery in Santa Barbara, and has shown at the Reynolds Gallery and Atkinson Gallery. Along with the AAC, she belongs to Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment and Goleta Art Association.

‏She is passionate about doing abstracts.
