Thore Edgren

Born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, my father, an artist and furniture designer, was an early influence in my life. While I was pursuing a degree in architecture at the University of Illinois, I also studied art and became interested in watercolor painting.

After a career as an architect involved in planning large educational facilities and designing interiors, I found myself pursuing the fine art of painting. My earlier work was influenced by the geometric abstract artists of the 1960s. Abstract art became a challenge for me to find new expressions, creating infinite possibilities for work. In a desire to expand my work, I introduced texture into my paintings, combining it with acrylic paint. I also began utilizing tree bark and natural recycled materials in collages.

My latest work utilizes collaged photographs from architectural and art magazines. I disassemble, rearrange, and collage into surrealistic and abstract art.
