Thore Edgren
Born and raised in Rockford, IL, my father, an artist and furniture designer, and was an early influence in my life. I graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering. After a career as an architect involved in planning large educational facilities and designing interiors, I found myself pursuing the fine art of painting.
My earlier work was influenced by the geometric abstract painters of the l960s. In a desire to expand my work, I introduced texture into my paintings combining it with acrylic paint creating collages and assemblage pieces. My latest work utilizes tree bark in various disciplines.
In the fall of 2011, a fellow artist J.T. Turner, and I decided there was a need to form an organization for artists to exhibit their work and to introduce abstract art to the public. As a result, the Abstract Art Collective was born and is active in the Santa Barbara art community.
