Pieter Dedoncker

When I was a kid I was fascinated by the process of photography, enchanted by the magic of projecting diapositives while operating the few cameras we had at home. But the drums were a stronger pull in my early teens and caused me to pursue a career in music. Yet a void remained and about 20 years later the camera entered my life again and was there to stay.

Photography has profoundly changed the way I look at the world, providing a tool to discover and question it. I see beauty in the margins of the script, manifesting in incongruencies and idiosyncrasies, where the essence of reality escapes the human dogma.

By seeking and seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary, my goal is to create visual stories that evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation, inviting viewers to pause and reflect.

My work is often conceptual and the result of a process of thought, but I also enjoy the medium’s capacity to instantly capture a mood or an emotion. I love experimenting with different processes, embracing irregularities specific to the chosen medium. That way, the works not only depict a narrative but also inquire the photographic process itself.
